BRADENTON, FL – H2U Bradenton, the health and wellness program sponsored by Blake Medical Center, is celebrating 20 years of empowering the adults of our community to improve their physical, mental and social health. Started in 1995 as a small group that met at Blake Medical Center, the program soon grew large enough to move into their own location on Cortez Road. At this time, the group officially became an affiliate of the national program, “Senior Friends”. As both membership and program offerings continued to grow, a second center was opened in the Bayshore community.
In 2004, the programs’ name was changed to H2U – Health to You, to reflect the new focus of the organization, and in 2008 the membership was opened all adults over the age of 18. Over the years the number and variety of programs increased to include Tai Chi, aquatic exercise, line dancing, art classes, computer classes, travel excursions and more, in addition to traditional health screenings and seminars. By 2011, a third center was needed so the Ellenton/Parrish branch was opened. Today, of the 101 national affiliates that offer H2U services, the Blake Medical Center H2U chapter is the largest with over 5,000 members.
