Welcome to Blake Medical Center
Blake Medical Center offers an excellent opportunity for residents to excel in their residency training program. The hospital is a 383 bed, tertiary hospital that has been offering a wide range of healthcare services to the community for over 40 years. Blake’s highly skilled team of professionals deliver lifesaving and life-improving services from advanced heart procedures like Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) to high quality orthopedic and spine surgery. We also have a Level II Trauma Center and offer both inpatient and outpatient Burn Care Services. An added advantage for residents with children is "Happy Cubs", our day care facility that is located on-site.
Over the last decade, the need for residency training positions has dramatically increased as medical schools across the country have increased their class size and new medical schools have opened. To help fill this gap and to address the growing physician shortage, Blake is committed to developing residency programs that produce outstanding physicians who will meet the growing healthcare needs of our community.
July 2016 was a milestone in the history of Blake Medical Center as we welcomed our inaugural class of 15 Internal Medicine Residents to not only our hospital, but to our beautiful community as well. The Graduate Medical Education Program at Blake will be an integral part of our overall services and evidence of our commitment to the education of future healthcare professionals. Our physician faculty members are eager to share their experience and medical expertise with our residents while guiding them in the essentials of providing high-quality care to our patients that is both compassionate and engaged.
In July 2017 we added a new ACGME accredited residency program. Our Transitional Year Residency is a one-year program designed to provide well-balanced graduate medical education in multiple clinical disciplines and give residents broad exposure to the basic areas of medicine to provide fundamental clinical skills training. This program is approved for 13 positions, and is sponsored by our Internal Medicine Residency Program.
The transition from medical student to resident physician is one of tremendous growth and is both challenging and rewarding at the same time. With this in mind, we have developed the tools and systems needed to help you achieve your fullest potential during your training. We are committed to supporting your personal and professional development and well prepare you to become a successful, independent physician.
