Volunteer Services at Blake Medical Center
The benefit of volunteering at Blake Medical Center is a two-way street. Current research indicates that volunteering is good for your health! People who volunteer live longer, function better, and have lower rates of depression. For senior volunteers the results are even more dramatic. But don't take our word for it. Our volunteers are dedicated to providing support to the professional staff, and quality care to our patient clients. Based on individual skills and interests, our volunteers are placed in one of 40+ Departments. Nursing Units, Information Desk, Gift Shop, Escort, and Golf Cart transport are just a few areas where our volunteers are needed. Complete orientation and specific training is given. (Blake's volunteers also deliver emails to our patients.
We are truly thankful to all of our volunteers who provide invaluable service to our staff and we are grateful every day for their many contributions. In addition to complimentary meal for every complete four hour shift, a special Volunteer Week is held once a year. During this week, Blake Medical Center is able to formally recognize our volunteers for all the hard work they provide throughout the year. Awards are given for hours and years of service.
Frist Humanitarian Awards
The Frist Humanitarian Awards are considered the highest honor an employee and volunteer can receive at HCA, the parent company of Blake Medical Center. They are given annually in recognition of the humanitarian spirit and philanthropic work of the late Dr. Thomas F. Frist, SR., a founder of HCA. The Frist Humanitarian Awards were created to recognize one employee, one volunteer and one physician at each HCA-affiliated facility who demonstrate extraordinary concern for the welfare and happiness of patients and their community.
Blake Volunteer Brenda Parker is the recipient of the 2010 Frist Humanitarian Award. Learn more about Brenda and “Mr. Miagi”, her certified therapy dog.
